The US is the without any doubt the biggest territory for Superstar Mahesh Babu. That the business for Spyder was still pending at this stage came as a surprise. But that is a thing of the past now. Spyder is closed in the US.
The North American theatrical rights have been snapped up for a little above 15 Cr. It includes Telugu and Tamil. Needless to add, it is a new record for the territory. The previous best too still happens to be Mahesh Babu’s Brahmotsavam. The rights of 15 Cr means Spyder has to do close to in between 3.5 Million to 4 Million to break even.
With a Tuesday release and an average talk, it should be a cakewalk for Spyder to be a break-even venture. However, getting talk has been the biggest problem for the US market. The last biggie outside Baahubali movies to get hit word of mouth in the US was Mahesh Babu’s Srimanthudu. Among other movies of top stars, Jr NTR got a good talk with Nannaku Prematho and an average one with Janatha Garage. These are the overall three biggies to post significant numbers in the US.
As one can make out, the problem with Spyder is it arrives within the completion of the first week of Jai Lava Kusa, a Jr NTR starrer. So, two big heroes who performed better in the US will be competing. Talk becomes vital then as there will be no holiday benefits. With bad talks, we could be staring at potentially two big duds again. Let’s hope that is not the case.
