South actors donning multiple hats

Long gone are the days when a hero only plays the role of a hero. Thanks to the impact of western, heroes are donning multiple hats and are turning singers, producers and even directors. This trend has exponentially in the last two years in all four southern industries – Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam.

Even actors with three films in their kitty are turning producers and singers. Some of the recent actors who have turned to other departments include Nithya Menon, who turned singer and even a dubbing artist recently, Nithiin, who started producing his own films.

In Tamil, Vijay turned singer while Suriya has started his own production company. Actor Simbu has been singing in other languages as well such as Telugu. Even Dhanush started his own production along Vishal. Both have also recently crooned songs in their own films.

According to industry experts, one of the reasons why most actors are turning producers is to have full control over their films. These actors are smartly producing low-budget films that are less prone to risks
