Nag Ashwin’s second directorial Mahanati brought many laurels to the team and the film will go down as the epic tale on yesteryear actress Savitri for coming generations as well. The film won three National Awards which is a no mean feat for a Telugu film.
Bankrolled by Vyjayanthi Movies, producer Ashwini Dutt has now revealed the backstory as to how Savitri’s biopic happened. The star producer revealed that while Nag Ashwin had spoken about the Savitri biopic, nothing was finalised.
Ashwini Dutt recalls the moment how an invisible force made it into a reality. He says that his wife happened to go for a small party. After the get together she went on to pick some books for reading. While she happened to pick one, another book fell into her hands, which was on Savitri.
“It was mere accidental that some other book fell into her hands. Then I recollected how Nag Ashwin once revealed of making a film on Savitri, and then I asked him to develop one after going through the book,” says Ashwini Dutt.
Work-wise, Vyjayanthi Movies is bankrolling the biggest project – sci-fi starring Prabhas to be helmed by Nag Ashwin. The film would go on floors next year, and have a release in 2023.
