Nagarjuna-Soggade-Chinni-Nayana-reviewWhat is the film about?
Ram (Nagarjuna) and Seeta (Lavanya Tripathi) return to village to get divorced. A disappointed Satya (Ramya Krishna) blames her husband Bangarraju (Nagarjuna) for this situation. How Bangarraju’s ghost comes to help the couple and family is what the film is all about.

How is Nagarjuna’s performance?
Akkineni Nagarjuna is in his elements right from the first frame till the end. He shows superb variations between the two characters Bangarraju and Ram. It is in spirit, literally, a rework of his Hello Brother twin variation and it has come out well. It is one more memorable character from the star.

Kalyan-krishna-Soggade-Chinni-Nayana-reviewDirection By Kalyan Krishna?
Kalyan Krishna makes his debut with the film but at no point are we reminded that this could be a debut film maker at work. All the scenes and performances from cast and crew are handled with expertise and control of a senior craftsman. There are issues with story, during few parts of second half but here too he has executed things with confidence and clarity. It can be clearly placed among one of the best debuts in Telugu films.

The backdrop of village adds great freshness to the film with dialogues being icing on the cake. What is more commendable here from director’s perspective is the way many scenes with sexual innuendoes have been handled. They are very classily handled and never give vulgar or discomfort feeling. The film is not with problems, once the main issue is solved the Bangarraju takes both pace and sheen off the film. Everything moves in predictable manner with clichés abundant. However, even after all this, when the final parting scene comes, one can’t help but connect with the lead pair. That’s where the film scores.

ramyakrishna-Chinni-Nayana-reviewRamya Krishna and others?
Make no mistake, despite presence of a latest heroine, Ramya Krishna is the true heroine of the film. She is there all along with Nagarjuna and it’s her chemistry with Nagarjuna that makes this one a pleasure to watch. Of course there are few scenes which also highlight her acting prowess but the chemistry angle is the one which stands out. Lavanya Tripathi is good in her space. She does her part with conviction.

Others playing members of the family like Chalapathi Rao, Brahmaji, Vennela Kishore, Jhansi etc all do their parts well. Nagababu playing Yama is adequate. Sampath, Nassar have limited roles and appear only at important junctures but they carry their parts well. Finally Brahmanandam has a small but funny role.

anup-rubens-Soggade-Chinni-Nayana-reviewMusic and other departments?
Music by Anup Rubens is a great plus for the film even though they have heard before quality. The picturization elevates them further. Background score is neat and in great sync with the proceedings. Editing is fine. Dialogues are superb and dipped in native slang. It feels refreshing hearing them.

Drawbacks?
Pace slackens in second half

Soggade-Chinni-Nayana-reviewAlternative Take
The main Ram and Seeta track has no issues at all, so that brings us to Bangarraju. His death and subsequent revenge parts could be altered to create more impact.
