Small Films Try to Hand Hold Tollywood in the Crisis?Tollywood started 2021 off with a bang, with films turning out to be successful in the theaters. Films like Krack, Uppena, Naandi, and others turned out to be successful this year, and Tollywood set an example for the rest of India, with its highly successful theatrical business.

A lot of big films were scheduled to release this summer, but all of them have now been postponed due to the second wave Coronavirus. Sekhar Kammula’s Love Story, which was scheduled to release on April 16th, and Nani’s Tuck Jagadish, which was scheduled to release on April 23rd, have also been postponed. These were supposed to kickstart the season of big films this year, but now this is not possible.

Theatre owners are already worried about their situation in the current scenario, as things didn’t turn out well for them during the previous lockdown. It now looks like small films are up to the task of surviving theatrical business in this crisis. Small films like Zombie Reddy fame Teja Sajja’s ‘Ishq: Not A Love Story’ and director Sobhan’s son, Santosh Sobhan’s ‘Ek Mini Katha‘ are now gearing up to release on April 23rd and April 30th respectively. Promotions for Ishq are already underway, as the film’s release date was announced some time ago. Most recently, Ek Mini Katha has been announced to release on the 30th, and the promotions are yet to begin for the film.

These films are now the only hope for theatre owners. If these films manage to get a good talk, then Tollywood’s theatrical business will not be adversely affected.
