The normal movie-going audience is in no mood to step out, visit their nearby theater and watch a movie unless it is an extravagant big-budget experience like RRR, KGF, or the Marvel series. The public is ready to wait for a few weeks and watch a movie on the OTT platform instead of spending on a movie ticket.
The standards set by RRR and KGF are too high, and mediocre films like Acharya and Sarkaru Vaari Paata don’t excite the audience anymore. Even big stars are not able to attract footfalls anymore.
These are testing times for the movie industry as films are biting the dust week after week as the scenario is the same in all industries.
There have also been ticket rates hiked by around 30-40% on average compared to the price they were watching before the pandemic, which is also keeping audiences away. The public is ready to pay such a heavy price for extravagant cinematic films, but for the regular films, it becomes a problem, and the public feels it is not worth paying unless it gets a positive talk, and they can watch such movies for free on OTT after a few weeks.
