Two notable Telugu films are going to hit cinemas this weekend, Samantha starrer Oh Baby, Aadi Saikumar’s Burra Katha. The debut flick of late Srihari’s son Meghamsh Srihari’s Rajdooth which was also positioned for July 5th release has been postponed at the last moment.
Among the three Oh Baby starring Samantha is by far the best promoted and the movie with most awareness, and visibility. One can already see it leading at advance booking level in all the A-centres. Burra Katha is following it, but at low levels and that too thanks to the mass appeal which other movies lack.
It leaves the weekend with a non-Telugu threat. The Hollywood movie Spider-Man Far From Home is coming with high expectations. It had an early release, and the response has been positive too. We have to see if it manages to dent the box office prospects in the A-centres.
For Samantha, the opening draw is on all her name and will show her star power. It will also be after a long time that a regular commercial entertainer which is not a period fantasy or horror flick, starring a female lead is going to open well. We have to wait and see where it lands at the end of the day after all the talk settles down.
