APSRTC has come up with an innovative idea to attract passengers and increase the occupancy. Starting from April 1st, RTC is going to provide free WiFi in all its long distance buses like Indra, Garuda and Vennela services.
As a pilot project, this facility is being started in buses plying between Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Bengaluru. Passengers will have to pay just 10 Rupees additionally to use this facility. RTC had come up with this idea to withstand the competition from Private buses.
However the implementation of this facility is the key while the intent is good. Already there are complaints that the TVs in RTC buses do not work mostly. Even if they work, RTC bores the passengers screening stone age films. If they bring in these changes, RTC can compete with the Private bus travels.
