All the while, Amazon Prime Video had been the numero uno choice for all the mainstream biggies. Amazon Prime kept bagging every other mainstream Telugu biggie. However, Netflix has now gotten an unexpected lifeline in Telugu cinema with RRR.
For some reason, Prime didn’t bag RRR. ZEE5(South Indian languages) and Netflix (Hindi and international versions) acquired RRR.
Netflix is now getting stellar international reach with RRR as the film is attracting the foreign OTT audience in big numbers. Not so long ago, RRR trended in as many as 60 countries on Netflix which is an unprecedented feat for any Indian film.
Given the kind of reach Netflix is getting with RRR and vice versa, Tollywood is apparently seeing Netflix as the optimal OTT partner. It is heard that even star heroes are pressurizing producers to give their films to Netflix, which is evidently boasting of mind-blowing international reach.
Even fans are vouching for Netflix now after seeing all the international acclaim Jr NTR and Ram Charan are getting for their performances in RRR. With almost every Tollywood star lining up big ticket projects with universal appeal, their fans want Netflix as the OTT partner for these films so that they can reach a wide section of the audience.
But it needs to be noted that RRR is in a completely different league altogether. The kind of international acclaim the film is getting is dream stuff. It doesn’t quite happen with all the films.
