Piracy has always been a principle problem for the film industry. Now, big-ticket films, RRR and KGF 2 have apparently fallen prey to piracy, and that too even before their much anticipated OTT premieres.
As per the latest updates on social media, the HD prints of both KGF 2 and RRR have leaked on the internet and they are spreading like wildfire.
If that really is the case, it could cause a dent in the OTT release prospects of these films. A section of the audience might be watching the pirated prints and that will eat into the viewership once these films arrive on their OTT streaming partners.
It is known that RRR’s OTT rights are held by ZEE 5 (South languages) and Netflix (Hindi) and KGF 2’s rights are held by Amazon Prime Video (all languages). These OTT giants would have spent big bucks on the OTT rights of these two biggies and the pirated copies will bring a new headache to them.
It is speculated that both KGF 2 and RRR might be arriving on OTT this May. But much prior to that, these supposed piracy copies might dampen the buzz on the OTT release of these films.
