SPY-Nikhil-SiddharthAfter Karthikeya 2, Nikhil has been largely focusing on the pan Indian market. His next film, Spy falls under the same category.

Spy has an interesting backdrop as it revolves around the mystery surrounding the death of legendary Indian freedom fighter Subash Chandrabose. It is announced for pan Indian release on the 29th of June.

However, there are doubts about the release date of the film as the makers took the foot off promotions after releasing the teaser. No promotional material was released later nor was there an attempt to publicize the release date.

This led to speculations that Spy’s release has been postponed. People are pointing out that the lack of promotions imply that the film has been postponed.

However, team Spy can’t afford a postponement of release and there’s a business oriented reason behind it.

The buyers agreed to pay premium prices for the distribution rights of Spy, keeping in mind the 3-day long weekend the film enjoys in its first weekend.

If the release date gets pushed back, a mid range film like Spy will be affected as it will lose out on the huge advantage of long weekend. So the buyers will slash the price of the rights.

For now, the team has confirmed with M9.news that they’re indeed on track for June 29 release. They’re saying that the post production is going on now and the release is well on track.

However, this affirmation about the release can have credence only if the promotions start soon. For now: the trade is still doubtful of the release plan.
