The Telugu film industry has a ‘40 crore club’ for the highly successful films just like Bollywood has its ‘100 crore club’. But lately it seems as if the need has arrived to increase the benchmark and make it upto 50 or 60 crores since several movies have managed to cross the 40 crore line including films like Gabbar Singh, Dookudu, Businessman, Eega, Julayi, Naayak and Mirchi. The latest one to join the club is Junior NTR’s ‘Baadshah”.
Burugupalli Sivaramkrishna, the President of the Telugu Film Producers Council stated that the dynamics of business has been changed as some time back, the success of a movie depended on the time period of a film’s run in the theatres but nowadays it can be determined in just the first weekend. According to him, the cost of prints has been reduced by more than half due to digital technology which is an encouragement to filmmakers to make bigger releases.
