Director Sukumar has created a unique brand for him in the US through the years. The collections of his films increased from under 500k to Two Million. The director’s journey is enviable and continuously on the rise. It isn’t a surprise that his next is lapped at a record price.
During the same time, Megapower Star Ram Charan has stagnated his market with mass movies that lack appeal in the US. Only recently, and after a great struggle, he has been able to cross the Million mark with Dhruva. The star’s next is Rangasthalam with Sukumar.
Still, the Sukumar factor has won, and Rangasthalam is in talks for a record deal. The expectation is that the film might have to do a record Two and Half Million in the US to break even, if the deal goes through. It is a test of sorts for both the director and the star. If the movie earns the profit, it will benefit both in a big way.
The risk is higher for Ram Charan, though, as his next is with director Boyapati Sreenu, a box office poison in the US. The follow-up with Rajamouli means, there would be very less credit for Charan. Rangasthalam is therefore very critical for Charan, and it is a must deliver kind of scenario.
