OTT platforms have never been as relevant in the Telugu entertainment industry as they are now. A fair few Telugu films have gone the OTT way since the onset of Covid pandemic. However, Tollywood stars imply that they hate the OTT prospect.
Mainstream heroes are firmly against the OTT release prospect. Even if their films go the OTT way, they throw negative vibes while promoting the film by saying they are forced to take up the OTT option due to the uncertainty pertaining to the theatrical industry.
However, Ram Charan seems to be doing what other stars are hating i.e, nurturing and promoting the imminent OTT revolution.
Reportedly, Charan is set to turn the brand ambassador for Disney+ Hotstar. The OTT giant intends to expand its footprint in the Telugu states by bring Charan on board as its brand ambassador.
Charan is said to have principally agreed to the proposal. It is heard that he will soon be shooting a couple of TV commercials for Disney Hotstar. He will be promoted as the face of the platform.
This could well be considered the first major step in emergence of OTT as mainstream market alongside the theatrical market. If that is the case, Charan could be steering the OTT change in Tollywood.
