And it is official, the competition for RRR in Hindi Gangubai Kathaiwadi is done and dusted. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial, previously slated to release on January 6th, 2022, will now arrive on February 18th, 2022.
A postponement was always on the card ever since RRR announced January 7th as the release date. The biggest issue that RRR and Gangubai Kathaiwadi had was that both featured Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in crucial roles. These stars were taken in RRR for the Hindi audience, so it was pointless if they had a separate Bollywood movie releasing at the same time.
RRR will now get an open week before Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam arrives on January 14th. It will be the same case across all industries barring Tamil and Malayalam. The former will have Ajith’s biggie Valimai whereas an announcement is pending for the latter.
Radhe Shyam belonging to a different genre helps RRR a lot in the northern belt. Both movies can work simultaneously if the respective target audience takes a liking to them.
SS Rajamouli directs RRR. It stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead. MM Keeravani provides the music to the period emotional mass entertainer. DVV Danayya produces it on a never seen before scale. RRR hits cinemas worldwide on January 7th, 2022.
