Icon Star Allu Arjun‘s latest release Pushpa – The Rise is setting the box office on fire. In the process, it is throwing some unexpected surprises. But, first, let’s look at the expected.
Everyone in the trade predicted Pushpa to open to record numbers in Nizam and it has done precisely that on the first day. In Telangana, Pushpa has set a new opening day record by collecting 11.44 Cr. It has become the first double-digit share movie on the way.
In Andhra Pradesh, Pushpa has collected nearly 13 Cr. The total from Telugu states is around 24 Cr. It is the highest opening ever for Allu Arjun surpassing his previous best Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.
However, the Telugu states performance was in expected lines. Even the underperformance in the Andhra region is anticipated due to the ticket price issue
What is a surprise is the movie’s collection outside Telugu states and in other languages.
The numbers in Hindi and Tamil have come as a huge surprise for Pushpa. The Bollywood dubbed version has collected nearly 3 Cr Nett whereas the Tamil version has grossed around 4 Cr. Both were huge revelations for trade.
To give a perspective to the unaware of the impact, Pushpa collected more than Aranmanai 3 in Tamil Nadu (a direct release on a holiday). Similarly, it has outperformed John Abraham starrer Satyamev Jayate 2 in core Hindi belts. All this with no promotion and the latest Spiderman movie in competition.
In Kerala, the Malayalam version of Pushpa had a delayed release from the evening. Even here it has collected a decent number which is more than one crore gross.
The overall opening is more than satisfactory and the second day has started on a positive note for Pushpa. We have to see how it fares in the coming days as it is word of mouth dependent.
