“I’ll wear a transparent sari for Rajnikanth or Kamal Haasan but not for a face like you”, was character artist Pragathi’s retort for a Tamil hero cum producer who started abusing her for not wearing a transparent sari for rain song sequence.
Pragathi was not comfortable with a particular transparent white sari she had to wear and hence rejected wearing it. The hero started abusing her taking the names of big heroines like Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi. He could have said that to her personally and convinced her.
But, he was not that big a hero to dictate such terms to her, felt that actress at that stage when she was doing heroine roles in Tamil films. So, when the maker of the movie came to compromise, she completed it on her terms and then left films and got married. Later, after marriage, she understood that she left a profession which could have given her an identity.
