PR Drama For Tamil's So-called Pan-India Film?Maniratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan is touted to be Kollywood’s answer to Baahubali. The film is being made in two parts, ala Baahubali, KGF, and Pushpa series. This has become a trend of sorts these days.

The first part, Ponniyin Selvan: Part One, is releasing on September 30. The film is said to be based on the classic novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy on the life of Raja Raja Chozhan I.

Now going by the latest reports, Amazon Prime has bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights of the film for a whopping amount. Some unheard numbers are floating in the trade, which doesn’t seem realistic as the film doesn’t have saleable stars.

Currently, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi don’t have such a huge market that any OTT platform will offer an astronomical amount for its streaming rights. Even Maniratnam has not delivered a big hit in a long, long time.

There are talks on social media that all of this is just a PR exercise to create hype for the film.

However, the film has a solid technical crew like AR Rahman for music, Ravi Varman for cinematography, Sreekar Prasad for editing, Thotta Tharani for production design, and Brinda for choreography, and so on.
