Priya Prakash VarrierPriya Prakash Varrier‘s wink act went viral across the country and that became a source for mischief mongers to create fake circulars and circulate them online. One such circular made to the online for which a popular media house fell and then wrote a story on the fake news believing it to be true, without verifying the facts.

Coming to the fake circular, it read that the management of a Coimbatore college had issued circular banning female students from imitating Priya Varrier’s wink-act in the classrooms and also notified that there are CCTV cameras were installed in classrooms to find out those girls who are doing that. The circular further threatened the girl student to debar them from college if found guilty.

It’s actually a morphed copy of a previous circular from the same college with a different content. Only the body of the circular is morphed and the remaining features of the circular aka the signature, date, headline among other things are retained from the original. It’s common these days. But, a popular media house like TOI falling prey is something that surprises and points at the falling standards of the press. Priya Prakash Varrier
