Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan – Part 1 hype has gone up at the right time. The bookings are consistently good all over. Looks like the audience is keen to watch this magnum opus expecting a nice theatrical experience.
The bookings in Hyderabad are picking up pace. Prasads and AMB have already gone full and others are also filling up. The bookings at many places were opened only today and the trade expects that Hyderabad is going to perform well for PS-1, at least on its first day.
After Brahmastra, now another dubbing film is going to record good numbers in the Telugu states, especially in cities.
In Tamil Nadu, the film is running a riot with fast-filling shows being reported all over. At this pace, the film is sure to beat Ajith’s Valimai first-day collections but might stay below Vijay’s Beast.
In the US as well, Ponniyin Selvan is recording great numbers for a Tamil film. The film has already crossed pre-sales of $700K.
The film lacked much hype in the initial days but Mani Ratnam’s brand value, the aura of a magnum opus, the huge star cast, and Vikram’s recent speech on Indian culture and tradition seems to have done the trick and the audience wants to give Ponniyin Selvan a try.
The Telugu version will post good numbers on the first day if the word of mouth is decent and the first talk from overseas shows is positive.
