ponniyin-selvan-ottMani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan emerged as the biggest grosser in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil version of the film did bumper business not only in India but overseas as well. But the Hindi and Telugu versions couldn’t create any impact because of which Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 couldn’t become the pan-India success that the makers were expecting it to be.

Ponniyin Selvan has been streaming on Prime Video (pay-per-view model) and even existing subscribers need to rent it. It will be available to all subscribers at no additional cost from November 4.

The reports suggest that Ponniyin Selvan’s story is the same on the OTT platforms as it was in the theaters. The Tamil audience is excited to watch Mani Ratnam’s historical extravaganza on the streaming platform whereas the Telugu and Hindi audience is just not very interested.

Films like RRR, The Kashmir Files, and even Karthikeya 2 created immense curiosity among the digital audience who were waiting anxiously for those films to come on OTT. But such excitement is missing among the audience to watch Ponniyin Selvan -1, except among the Tamil people.

Let’s see if Ponniyin Selvan creates any viewership records when it will have its full digital premiere on November 4.
