Maruthi’s Prema Katha Chitram was a blockbuster in Telugu. The film even helped actor Sudheer Babu find a strong foothold in the industry and also catapulted actress Nanditha’s career. The film was recently remade in Kannada as Chandralekha starring Chiranjeevi Sarja and Telugu actress Shanvi Srivastav. The remake has apparently turned out to be a hit, minting over INR 10 crore in the first two weeks.
The film’s quirky story laced with intermittent humour has been accepted by the masses. While trade pundits agree the remake is not as successful as the original, but are still happy with how the remake has performed at the box-office. Maruthi had announced a few months back that the film will be remade in Hindi as well as Tamil. I believe now the remakes in other languages after the hit of the Kannada version will roll out soon.
Let’s wait to find if the remake versions of the film in the other languages work or not.
