trffic-copIn today’s technologically advanced world, news travels fast, even though it might not be true. An instance of this happened when the picture of a traffic police sub-inspector spread like wildfire on instant messaging applications and social networking websites. Apparently, the inspector was caught on camera playing cards along with a cigarette packet and empty liquor bottle on his side. A mocking caption said, “Sub-inspector M Jayavel of Chromepet traffic police on night vehicle checking duty.”

After the incident, an internal inquiry was initiated by senior police officials, the truth was discovered. While the sub-inspector admitted to playing cards, he said that it was only after duty hours. The SI stated in his defence that, “My duty ended at 12 o’clock (midnight). There were a few issues in my family due to which I have to delay going back home. So I was spending a little time at the station, when I played cards.”

It was revealed after further investigation that the photo has been allegedly taken and circulated by another SI with a grudge against him. The authenticity of the picture is still being looked into by senior police officials.
