Oh Manapenne, the Tamil Remake of Vijay Deverakonda and Ritu Varma starrer, Pelli Choopulu is skipping theatrical release and premiering directly on OTT. The stage is set for Oh Manapenne’s direct to OTT release. The latest we hear is that the Harish Kalyan and Priya Bhavani Shankar starrer will be premiering on Disney+ Hotstar on the 22nd October.
“We are coming on oct 22nd to spread love, make u guys laugh & entertain you all,” Harish Kalyan tweeted as he announced the OTT release date of Oh Manapenne. He seemed all excited about the film’s OTT release prospect.
Oh Manapenne is directed by Kaarthikk Sundar, who was once an associate of noted Tamil filmmaker AL Vijay. Much like the original, Pelli Choopulu, the Tamil remake Oh Manapenne will also be a light hearted comedy entertainer. Cosmetic changes were made to the basic set-up to suit the sensibilities of native audience. Vishal Chandrasekhar is composing the music for the film.
While Pelli Choopulu was a smashing success at the box office, it remains to be seen if the remake, Oh Manapenne can strike a chord with Tamil audiences.
As for Pelli Choopulu, the on-screen chemistry between the lead pair, Tharun Bhacker’s sensible narrative, and the comedy track worked in its favour. Oh Manapenne will tread a similar path. The chemistry between the lead pair Harish Kalyan and Priya Shankar holds the key here. Disney+ Hotstar is projecting Oh Manapenne as one of its flagship OTT releases in Tamil OTT. The trailer of the film will be out soon and more promotional material will be unveiled correspondingly.
