Post Chiranjeevi there has been a long dull period and then Mahesh Babu drew the first blood with Dookudu. He then followed it up with Businessman leaving the rest of the number 1 contenders in tatters as were failing to match up to Superstar in his wake. It looked for a moment like Telugu cinema had its next number 1 after the exit of Megastar Chiranjeevi.
And then Gabbar Singh happened which made things clear that Mahesh Babu had a tough competitor to achieve that status of number 1 but he certainly was the closest to it. It was back to square one and this time Pawan Kalyan laid his claim at the thrown. With Jr NTR and Ram Charan failing to break the ceiling it was between these two for the coveted crown.
Pawan Kalyan made his claim for the number 1 even stronger with Atharintiki Daredi. But Pawan Kalyan being Pawan Kalyan he has jumped onto political bandwagon leaving the position wide open once again to Mahesh Babu. So with him out of the equation politically, it’s all between Ram Charan and Jr NTR for now with an addition in the form of Prabhas a year later for the second position. Meanwhile all Mahesh Babu requires is a big blockbuster to be reckoned as number 1 which isn’t the case with Ram Charan as he doesn’t have the projects currently to back the claim unlike Mahesh Babu. Jr NTR is still struggling and Prabhas with Bahubali is sitting on a goldmine.
As things stands today it’s Mahesh Babu who gains the most out of the political move of Pawan Kalyan. The rest need to catch up him first while he tries to catch up with Pawan Kalyan. Would Pawan Kalyan remain intact despite facing political storm and who would be the next number 2 makes the upcoming season of releases in Telugu cinema quite exciting.
