The Telugu OTT space has been rather dry for the past few weeks with not too many exciting outings. But that can change soon as recent theatrical hit Karthikeya 2 heads for OTT release.
Karthikeya 2 opened to good reviews and it went on a great run at the box office. The film is a thriller drama, a genre that is popular in the OTT space.
Karthikeya 2’s OTT rights are with ZEE5 and they are expected to announce the OTT release date very soon. Given that the film is still doing well in theaters, the OTT release might be held back momentarily.
Karthikeya 2 is the sequel to 2014 hit film, Karthikeya. It has the right potential to attract the OTT audience.
ZEE5 couldn’t entirely make the most of their recent blockbuster acquisition RRR as the other streaming partner Netflix walked away with most of the spotlight.
Now, ZEE5 has a potentially good film in Karthikeya 2 that can boost their prospects in the Telugu OTT space.
The film is directed by Chandoo Mondeti and it has Anupama Parameswaran and Anupam Kher in other important roles.
