Rajamouli Trumps One More Global TerritoryThe Academy Awards announced the shortlists for ten categories at the upcoming Oscars. They include the documentary feature (15), international feature (15), documentary short subject (10), sound (10), original score (15), live-action short film (10), makeup and hairstyling (10), original song (15), animated short film (10), and visual effects (10).

The shortlist voting period concluded on December 21, and the remaining films will move on to the phase one voting period, which will take place from January 12 to 17.

It was disappointing to see RRR not included in the list of films selected in the visual effects category. Even Hollywood critics raved about the VFX in RRR, saying it showcased some of the most inventive VFX of the year.

RRR also lost in the Original Score and Sound Design categories. It got shortlisted only for the ‘Original Song.’ It was expected that RRR would get shortlisted in at least two categories out of these ten that were announced today.

So ten are gone, and 13 categories are still remaining to be shortlisted. Out of these 13, now only Best Picture and Best Director are left for RRR. But there are giants like Avatar 2, Top Gun, and many more in those categories, so the chances of RRR going ahead look bleak.

Unless RRR gets shortlisted for Best Picture or Best Director, it can be assumed that Original Song might be the only category RRR might get nominated in the Top 5.

If India had nominated RRR officially instead of Gujarati film ‘Last Film Show,’ it would have been a cakewalk for RRR to win in the “International Feature category.” This is how politics can affect and ruin the chances of making India proud.
