Selfiee BookingsShah Rukh Khan gave Bollywood a new lease of life with Pathaan. But Bollywood is hell-bent on ruining the momentum given by SRK’s film and is again back to its losing ways.

Last week’s release Shehzada, a remake of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, sank without a trace at the box office and this week’s release, Selfiee, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, is looking to meet an even worse fate if we go by the advance bookings.

The film’s advance booking opened yesterday and the response has been shockingly low. Only 8000 tickets have been booked in the entire country for its first weekend, which is embarrassing, to say the least for a star like Akshay Kumar. That means Akshay Kumar doesn’t even have 10000 fans in the entire country. Even Pathaan on its 31st day has sold 13,000 tickets.

Even Ayushmann Khurrana’s last year’s disaster film, Doctor G, had better advance bookings (18K tickets sold) compared to Selfiee (8K sold). That film took an opening of 3.5 crores on its first day, The trade is hopeful that Selfiee at least crosses the 5 crore net collections on its first day.

Akshay Kumar and the entire team of Selfiee have been on a spree doing promotional events. A new Guinness Record was also achieved by Akshay Kumar for taking the maximum number of Selfiees in 3 minutes. But none of these gimmicks have generated even minimum buzz for the film.

The best the makers can now hope is that the walk-in audience comes in huge numbers to watch Selfiee today, and the word-of-mouth is positive for the film. Or else, it is curtains for the film on its first day itself.

Selfiee is the official remake of the Malayalam film Driving License.
