No shootings on Monday

All the film industries of South will come to a halt this Monday. They have decided to stop shooting on January 7th in protest against levying of 12.36 percent service tax on film and television industries. They had earlier observed a similar protest on February 23, 2012, in protest against the government’s proposal, but the government did not budge and the new taxation came into effect on July 1, 2012.

The new taxation policy has increased the production costs heavily. The government policy is levying service tax at each stage of the film going from the producer to the distributor to the exhibitor. There will not be any shootings on Monday. The members of film industries will undergo fasts and mass protests on that day to register their protest.
