Netflix-VijayTamil media often makes tall claims about the OTT rights of their films. A section of Tamil media previously claimed Disney+ Hotstar paid over Rs 125 crore for Vikram which is a far-fetched tally. Now, they’re back at it again with Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s next film, Thalapathy 67.

As per a few verified handles belonging to Tamil media personalities, Thalapathy 67’s OTT rights have been sold for a sensational amount.

They say Netflix paid Rs 160 crores for Vijay’s film and the deal has been closed. Now, netizens are commenting that this whole report sounds like a joke and doesn’t have any authenticity.

Firstly, Netflix is never way too aggressive when it comes to buying South films, or even any Indian film for that matter. The chances of them deciding to spend a sensational Rs 160 crore on a regional hero’s film is hard to believe.

Moreover, Tamil films never shook the Indian OTT space. Even blockbusters like Vikram and Ponniyin Selvan couldn’t become pan India OTT blockbusters like Pushpa or RRR.

So, there’s absolutely no reason for Netflix to go all out and spend an unprecedented amount on Vijay’s film. Netizens are commenting that this could just be an attempt to pump up the pre release business surrounding the film and a mere media stunt.
