Hansal Mehta has directed many films in the past, but most of them have been washouts. His last theatrical film Faraaz, an autobiographical action thriller, also sank without a trace.
He is basically termed a disaster director when it comes to theatrical films, but he has now turned out to be the king of OTT blockbusters. His previous web series, Scam 1992, was one of the first OTT blockbusters in India, and now Scoop has joined the list of super successful OTT web series.
Scam 1992, based on Harshad Mehta’s biopic, was released on SonyLiv. Very few people in India had a subscription to SonyLiv because of the limited content it offers. So many people watched it on a pirated version by downloading it from Telegram and torrents.
But Scoop is getting the advantage of releasing on a big platform like Netflix, which has great reach not only in India but also in foreign countries. It is penetrating not only mass pockets but also the elite class audience, which loves to watch shows and movies on a premium platform like Netflix.
