Nani Passes The ‘Mass’ TestThe latest release of Natural Star Nani is doing well at the box office among the limited screens. To those who are not aware, it has to share screens with existing releases and also has issues related to the ticket price and shutting down of cinemas. Amidst all this external chaos, Nani must be happy for one thing. It is that he has passed the ‘mass’ test.

Nani has been slowly but steadily trying to stretch his mass persona from time to time. There is always that urge seen via his characters in films like Nenu Local, Middle Class Abbayi and so on. However, the two significant attempts on that count V and Tuck Jagadish were critical failures.

With Shyam Singha Roy, Nani attempted the same mass heroic character again. But, unlike the previous attempts, this time, he has succeeded. The role of Shyam Singha Roy is getting high praises for the actor. It is without any doubt his most mass role yet.

If one goes into finer details, it would be evident what has worked this time. Unlike the previous attempts, the writing for Shyam Singha Roy has suited it perfectly. It elevates the character.

And it is done without heavy-duty action, which was seen previously. There are not many fights in Shyam Singha Roy, and the one that is put has been built carefully. The ‘Temple Fight’ in the second half is elevated as a result, and people can’t stop talking about it. More than the actual action, the ‘character’ shines.

Rahul Sankrityan has done a fabulous job in etching the character of Shyam Singha Roy. He has taken a giant leap as a director. His next would be keenly awaited by many now.

As for Nani is concerned, he is taking a break from ‘Mass’ and going back to his lighter vein comic drama with his next. We can’t wait for Ante Sundaraniki from him next.
