For an extended period due to the large mass image the Nandamuri heroes have, they had stuck to mass movies largely (in commercial format) without going for a big change. Nandamuri Balakrishna does try something unusual from time to time, but they still were under the same broad mass genre that was less attractive to youth.
After a very long time, entire Nandamuri heroes are working in films that are against types. While Jr NTR already did a Nannaku Prematho and changed his looks to uber cool from Temper, Kalyan Ram too was given a big makeover by Puri Jagannath through Ism.
Carrying the same forward three heroes are doing something similar again with their current films. Jr NTR will be seen in a negative and very simpleton role in Jai Lava Kusa. Balakrishna will be playing a Puri Jagannadh hero who will present him in an entirely new light. And now we have an announcement that Kalyan Ram will act in an out and out love story directed by 180 fame Jayendra with cinematography by PC Sreeram.
It is surely an exciting time to be a Nandamuri fan. Let us see which of these makeover attempts work commercially. Last time Kalyan Ram did Ism, it didn’t work out that well.
