Monotonous-Mahesh-Babu-Losing-GripSuperstar Mahesh Babu has a strong following in the US, and his track record needs no special mention. Under the circumstances, Maharshi is proving to be a puzzle for everyone involved. It has flopped in the US with a collection of around 1.7M (as of now).

Usually, Superstar Mahesh Babu’s film fares the best in The US for its talk compared to the same in the Telugu states. There are a few examples to come to such a conclusion. It is the reason why he is regarded as the leading star among Telugu heroes at the US box office. However, Maharshi has again proved to be an exception here.

One hears multiple reasons but the most pointed out one is the lack of variety in Superstar’s films off late. Post-Aagadu where Mahesh Babu was seen in a hyperactive role, the star has gone mum on screen. He is seen playing passive aggressive, intense roles back to back. Add to it; there is no change in looks. It is leading to a lot of frustration among fans. When Maharshi too gave similar vibes fans didn’t show up in the expected numbers.

The message factor follows. It is suitable for a star to do a message-oriented film once in a while. But, to do them continuously or incorporate it needlessly even in a regular entertainer is making it worse from the audience perspective. A clean mass entertainer with no message looks like the order of the day.

Sometimes, when stars began to take themselves way too seriously by an error in judging the elements that contributed to the success, they start to live in a bubble. The results of their assumption would only be known when a film like Maharshi comes around. If a star is not quick to judge again and succumb to a false narrative, the failure is sure to strike even before he realizes what has happened. It is all their before him only he couldn’t see. Let’s hope that is not the case with Superstar Mahesh Babu.
