There are several instances of Mobile Phones being found in the cells of prisoners in Telangana jails in the recent times. Even after multiple security measures, prisoners are managing to smuggle the phones in to their barracks some how. Some of the criminals have started organizing crimes from inside the jails. So the authorities have decided to install the jammers to put check on them.
To begin with authorities had planned to install mobile phone jammers in the Central Prison, Chanchalguda and Central Prison, Cherlapalli. This setups involve huge costs so the idea was scrapped previously. But with increase in instances of finding phones with prisoners, authorities have decided to go forward. Some officials of the prisons department have already visited different jails in the country, including Tihar jail to understand how the jails have been dealing with the problem of prisoners smuggling phones into the jail.
