Multiple films featuring top stars across the industry have released post-Baahubali 2. Two movies each in Telugu (Jai Lava Kusa and Spyder), Hindi (Tubelight and Jab Harry Met Sejal), and Tamil (Vivegam and Mersal). Among them, one film has done the impossible, and that is none other than Mersal.
The Vijay starrer has had a record-breaking opening day in Tamil Nadu as it overtook Kabali. Here Baahubali 2 did not have an opening day record due to release issues. But, it had created a new record for the opening week, and that’s where Vijay stands out for his extraordinary star pull.
Vijay’s Mersal has broken the opening week record held by Baahubali 2 in flat four days. It is sensational by any account and also makes Vijay and Mersal the first star and film to achieve that. The fact that the feat has been accomplished even before completion of a year for Baahubali 2 on top and that too with regular commercial film makes Vijay extraordinary. Some controversies have helped keep the buzz alive on the film, but those don’t matter as the people still have to turn up and that’s where Mersal has won.
