Anthology series aren’t very familar in Telugu space. Last year an anthology series titled Pitta Kathalu was released on Netflix. The series didn’t click with the Telugu audience despite known names like Nag Ashwin, Tharun Bhascker, Nandini Reddy, Amala Paul, and Lakshmi Manchu.
In Tamil also there are a couple of anthologies like Putham Pudhu Kaalai and Paava Kadhaigal worked out well, but ‘Navarasa’ anthology created by Mani Ratnam fell flat on their faces. The two series that were decently successful also starred big names like Goutham Menon, Sai Pallavi, Prakash Raj, Karthik Subbaraj, and Shruti Haasan.
Now Nani is coming up with another anthology series, Meet Cute, in Telugu directed by his own sister Deepthi Ghanta. It presents five heart-warming stories of people meeting accidentally.
Many in the Telugu audience still don’t know the meaning of anthology and it will be a challenge for Deepthi to come up with an engaging short stories and win the Telugu audiences without the presence of big names.
She is directing all 5 stories which makes it even more challenging. Usually, different directors direct each episode in an anthology series giving the audience a different flavor with each story.
Since Deepthi is directing all five stories, there is a chance of all the episodes getting monotonous and repetitive in the same style. But Deepthi says that since she is directing all episodes there is a similar vibe and flow all through the series.
If Deepthi can create a HIT anthology series with Meet Cute then it will really be a proud achievement for her and Nani as well. If this turns out to be successful then we will see more anthologies getting made in Telugu. Let’ see.
