Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has literally made a fool of himself when he took the example of ‘Sye Raa’, ‘War’ and ‘Joker’ that were all released on 2nd October. According to him, these three movies together collected Rs. 10 crores and that would be possible in a country with a sound economy.
India’s economy is suffering from slowdown opine the business pandits who expressing concern over the concerns that might have led to this slow down of economy in the country. India’s economy has slowed down to a six-year low of 5% for the June quarter.
When this is the case and the government is struggling to implement specific solutions for solving the problem, the above-mentioned union Minister brings in a vague argument saying that the three movies together earned Rs. 120 crores.
When it comes to ‘Sye Raa’, we know that the opening day collections were around Rs. 2.6 crore nett in the Bollywood sector and ‘Joker’ earned just 6 crores across the country. It was ‘War’ that could put up a decent number grossing more than Rs. 51 crores.
It’s not the numbers but the politician using the revenue of films to talk about the slowdown in the economy that has made him a butt of jokes. In a country with more than 136 crore population, do you think the collections of Bollywood movies can be equated to sound economy?
