Just a day before Ugadi festival, Legendary playback singer Lata Manageshkar had announced her retirement from singing. The legend who sang 1000s of songs in over 36 regional languages started her singing journey at the age of 13. The singer attended Deenanath Mangeshkar awards presentation ceremony in Mumbai on Wednesday and speaking on this occasion, she said, “There were some radical changes in Indian music for the last few years. Though change is welcome, I am unable to take it. So, I decided to stop singing.”

Her last song in a Bollywood film was “Tere hasne se” for 2011 film “Satrangee Parachute”. She also launched her music label LM Music with a bhajan album last year. Lata Mangeshkar is the second vocalist to have ever been awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
