Ram Nath Kovind swore in as the 14th President of India the other day. As soon as the swearing in ceremony concluded, Ram Nath made his Twitter debut as well but as soon as he entered Twitter, he was seen having more than 3 Million Followers.
While some media houses say it is the popularity of Kovind, the fact is otherwise. Official Twitter accounts of the President, Vice President, various Ministries (HMOIndia, PMOIndia etc) are considered digital assets that belong to the government.
Twitter has a strategy for digital transition when the occupant of a position changes to ensure continuity and preserve the digital history of the previous occupant. The Tweets of Pranab Mukherjee are archived under the handle @POI3 and the followers were added to Kovind’s new Twitter account.
