Is Katamarayudu going to be the biggest test for a star in overseas? From the look of things, it looks very likely, without any doubt. The Pawan Kalyan starrer is slated to release in the US on March 24 with premieres on March 23.
Coming to the topic, no regular commercial fare in a “routine” format has crossed 1 Million at the box office in the US. The only exceptions to this unwritten rule are Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu. The former did it twice with Gabbar Singh and Sardar Gabbar Singh; the latter did it once with Aagadu. Except for Gabbar Singh, the other two films were disasters in the US. It just highlights how difficult it is to pull the audience with this kind of flicks.
With Katamarayudu, the challenge for Pawan Kalyan increases manifolds. First of all, it has the genre to deal, with, then there is the Khaidi No 150 premiere number which it will get compared to and finally, get a success that’s acceptable to everyone.
As of now, there seems to be little interest in the movie in the US, but with a star hero, we never know how things turn up at the last moment. The distributors are giving it the widest Telugu release ever with 242 locations confirmed already. A big success here for Pawan Kalyan will put him in a unique position where the genre will not matter as far as his pull goes.
