Kamal Hassan’s Viswaroopam was more in discussion for the controversial DTH Premiere idea than the actual movie itself. To generate extra income for the big budget movie, Kamal had come up with the idea of screening of the movie in DTH few hours before the theatrical release. However, there was a stiff opposition from theater owners who feel this new idea will be a detriment to the theater collections.
Kamal was so stubborn to go up with this idea but the repeated talks with theater owners could not change their stance of banning the movie in theaters. Finally, the movie release which was supposed to release on January 11th is now postponed to January 25th. But if the latest buzz from Chennai is to be believed, Kamal Hassan had finaly yielded to their pressure and dropped the DTH Premiere idea. The film will reportedly have a DTH release either on the same day of the theatrical release or some days after it.
A dejected Kamal Haasan reportedly said “I am hurt that the industry has not supported me in this effort. They are not looking ahead”.
