Manam-drushyam

Akkineni and Daggubati families are the most revered families in Tollywood. They even share family relationship because of Naga Chaitanya, who is the grandson of Rama Naidu. They are like one family. And as of now it is party time for both the families because ‘Manam’ from Akkineni family and ‘Drushyam’ from Suresh Productions went on to become decent hits at the box-office. Added to the success and critical acclaim, both the films have proved beneficial monetarily.

Nevertheless an unfair comparision between the two movies & families has brewed up recently. Though the families concerned are happily together, these judgemental comparisions are talking about one family gaining an upper hand over the other. According to the box-office reports ‘Manam’ collected a huge amount of Rs.40+ crores and as per the present trend of ‘Drushyam’s collections, Venky starrer is going to rake around 25 crores.

Where the comparision started is regarding the difference in the net collections of the two movies. Since ‘Manam’ is a way ahead in commercial collections, over-enthusiasts are giving verdicts that ‘Drushyam’ is not on par with the total box-office power of ‘Manam’and even giving inference that Akkineni brand beats Daggubati brand. May be, it is a good comparision. But when one takes the budget of the two movies into account, there is nothing like one brand beating the other.

Reportedly ‘Manam’ is made with approximately Rs.30 crore budget and has raked in Rs.40 crore plus moolah worldwide. While ‘Drushyam’ is made with comparitively a small budget of only Rs.10 crores and estimatedly going to bring in a net collection of Rs.25 crores world wide. If we look at these figures, isn’t it judgemental to compare in the terms of net collections ignoring the budget spent on the movies? What say guys?
