AR Murugadoss is among the top 3 directors among the Southern film industries. So, when a top star is working with him, the hype on the product naturally is the biggest, and it always reflects on the business. However, this isn’t the case with Spyder and its reflecting in the business of the movie.
The issue gets further highlighted in the wake of a film that is arriving in competition, Jai Lava Kusa. On paper, Jai Lava Kusa is weaker compared to Spyder no matter how we slice and dice it. But the business done for the movies tells a different story.
As things stand today, Jr NTR’s Jai Lava Kusa is getting better offers from distributors compared to Mahesh Babu’s Spyder. One can argue that Jai Lava Kusa had a massy teaser to help its prospects. But Jai Lava Kusa needs that as it doesn’t have a crazy combination. Spyder ideally should be closed at record prices even without any teaser or trailer due to the combo craze, but that is not happening.
The only reason that can be seen now for the business is the past films of the respective stars. Jr NTR is coming off career best Janatha Garage whereas Mahesh Babu is coming off Brahmotsavam. Surely these past results must have had an impact and that too when the forthcoming films are releasing so close, the distributors have favored the least risky one.
