The theatrical trailer of Jaanu starring Sharwanand and Samantha is out. It is a remake of classic Tamil movie 96 starring Vijay Sethupathy and Trisha.
The trailer makes it clear that Jaanu is a faithful recreation of the original with no changes. There are a few visuals that appear different, but that’s due to a different location. Otherwise, it is a frame to frame copy.
The good news is unlike the teaser, which gave a little off vibe, the trailer sets the right tone. A clear glimpse regarding the overall content has been provided. It also helps that the director from the original is working on the remake as well. The movie seems to retain the soul of the original in the remake.
The sad part is the comparison with the original can’t be avoided. The actors and the movie have to bear with the needless online scrutiny. The intention here is clear that the makers want to give a feel of the original to Telugu audience instead of trying to better it or give it a different spin.
The critical aspect with the remake would be the writing, and chemistry between the leads. If it can hold up to the original and maintain the poetic quality, it can strike a chord with the Telugu audience, too.
