It missed the target in the direct release, but finally Avengers: Endgame has achieved what it was set to do, post the second visit to theatres recently. Avengers: Endgame has now officially crossed Avatar to become the world’s highest grosser.
Avengers: Endgame has now grossed 2.789 Billion worldwide, which means it has surpassed Avatar by a whisker. Avatar has grossed 2.778 Million worldwide in multiple phase-wise releases starting from its original December 2009 arrival in cinemas.
What it also means is that after more than twenty years a non- James Cameron movie had become a worldwide top grosser. Previously, Titanic starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet was the number one grosser until Avatar from James Cameroon displaced it at the top.
Avengers: Endgame directed by Russo Brothers is the cinematic culmination of a series of movies based on Marvel Comics characters. It all started with the Iron Man film that came out in 2008. It has not only made the comics character more fashionable but also made stars out of many actors.
