The ongoing political and military tensions post the Uri terror attacks between India and Pakistan had a direct impact on the glamour industry in both the countries. While Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) banned Pakistan artists to work in India, Pakistan exhibitors are unofficially banning the screening of Bollywood films in Pakistan theaters.
Many prominent cinema halls of Pakistan had voluntarily decided not to screen any of the upcoming Bollywood movies. Even those films like ‘Pink’ which were already running successfully in theaters were removed midway as expression of solidarity with their military in these troubled times.
There are some distributors and theater owners who think that Indian content playing on television also need to be banned so that no Indian content reaches masses in Pakistan. Though IMPPA has no objection releasing pictures which had Pakistan actors who had already signed, no one from Pakistan should be made to work in Indian films hereafter, till the tension subsides.
