Iconic Tamil Filmmaker J Mahendran Is No MoreIconic Tamil filmmaker, J Mahendran is no more. He breathed his last today at his residence in Chennai after being admitted to hospital recently on March 27th. He was 79 years old.

J Mahendran entered the Tamil film scene as a writer in 1966 and was part of many successful films. He turned director a decade later with the movie Mullum Malarum starring Rajinikanth in the lead. It is often credited as the movie that was the beginning of the superstardom of Rajinikanth, a huge turning point in his career. Popular actress Suhasini made her debut with the director’s Nenjathai Killathe. The movie went on to win a few National Awards as well.

In the last few years, Mahendran has turned into an actor as well starting with Kamaraj in 2004. His villainous act in Theri can’t be missed. In Telugu, Mahendran was seen in the Pawan Kalyan starrer Katamarayudu. May his soul rest in peace.
