After witnessing the phenomenal collections of Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ and ‘Secret Superstar’ and also the latest one, ‘Hindi Medium’, the makers of ‘Baahubali’ had decided to release the second installment of the epic drama in China, as well.
While ‘Dangal’ grossed Rs. 1200 crore plus in China, ‘Secret Superstar’ collected Rs. 700 crores plus. Obviously, ‘Baahubali 2’ was expected to have a blockbuster run in China. But, things are totally different now and Rajamouli team might be praying that BB2 will do well in China.
However, ‘Baahubali 2‘ is struggling and may not even touch the Rs. 100 crore mark. The first part of Baahubali also didn’t do well in China. But, the success of Bollywood movies raised hopes. Before ‘Dangal’ went for China’s release, the Hindi version of ‘Baahubali 2’ was on the top with the highest collections in the domestic market. But, China’s collections put ‘Dangal’ on the top.
Looking at the stats, it’s very clear that China audiences are more interested in family entertainers rather than the superhero movies like ‘Baahubali’. They had seen films which are made on a grander scale than Baahubali and hence, it’s not a new thing for them.
But in case of even small movies like ‘Hindi Medium’ (Rs. 200 crores gross in China), the family and social structure that was portrayed in the movie is something that holds the attention of the moviegoers in China. It’s indeed a big shock for Rajamouli and team.
