Not all films are meant to star Superstars in them. Some movies just need good or passable actors who can manage to hold their own when magic is happening around them. Fidaa is one such film, and the presence of a star wouldn’t have let the magic happen.
Sekhar Kammula during the promotional rounds of Fidaa said that he waited for a long time for the approval of Superstar Mahesh Babu. Fidaa was a script that was narrated to him and waiting for his nod. Sekhar Kammula wanted to make the movie with a star, and he thought Mahesh Babu suited for it the best. It was Dil Raju who convinced him otherwise after a long period of silence from the star.
In hindsight after watching the film one can see why Superstar Mahesh Babu would not have been interested in Fidaa. And he surely has a valid reason. It is a blessing in disguise that the star didn’t do it. In the past, Ye Maaya Chesave (then titled Jessy)and Manasantha Nuvve, too were rejected by Mahesh Babu. One can see the common thread in all these movies that went on to achieve great commercial success. Those films don’t need a star, basically and a star must be able to understand that as well.
